COUGARS COME BACK TO END WITH WIN

by on Apr.30, 2011, under Baseball

The Clark Cougars finished off their district championship season with a spectacular win over O’Connor 4-3.  A large Cougar fan base showed up to cheer the 27-5A champions on.  It was an unusually quiet night for Cougar bats with only 3 hits in the first 6 innings of play.  Cougars scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  With 2 outs, Ryan Skowronski walked, Jason Cervantes singled to advance Skowronski to 2nd and he scored on Hunter McFall’s single.
O’Connor came back in the top of the 3rd inning and scored 2 runs, and scored another run in the top of the 5th, to make the score O’Connor 3, Clark 1.  In the bottom of the 5th inning, Clark scored again when McFall – who reached base on a walk – came in on a bases loaded walk by Matt Cohen, bringing the score to O’Connor 3, Clark 2.  Clark held O’Connor scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings.  In the bottom of the 7th inning, with 2 outs, Cohen stepped into the batters box and battled to work a full count for a walk.  Cohen advanced to 2nd on a passed ball while Chris Werland was at bat.  With a 2 ball, 2 strike count, Werland singled to the gap scoring Cohen from 2nd to tie the game.  Werland made it to 2nd on a missed cut-off.  Robert Martin stepped into the batter’s box and on the first pitch hit a shot down the first base line that scored Werland to win the game.   (continue reading…)

District 27 5A CHAMPIONS!

Clark baseball defeated Holmes 13-2 in 5 innings of play to become District Champs for the second time in school history.   Once again the story of the game was the Clark bats – and what a story they told.   Clark had a total of 12 hits for the game with several standouts.  Coming into the 3rd inning, Ed Moore led off with a double.  He was followed at the plate by John Henderson who hit a double and scored Moore.  Next up was Jason Cervantes who singled.  Hunter McFall stepped into the batters box and hit a sacrifice to deep center to score Henderson.  Braden Mattson was up next and on a 1 ball, 1 strike count, hit a bomb over the left center field fence.  The inning ended with the score, Clark 4, Holmes 2.  In the 4th inning, the bats continued to crack.  With 2 outs , and 3 runners on base, McFall stepped into the batters box and delivered a single that drove in Moore and Henderson, leaving McFall and Cervantes on base.  Mattson stepped into the box and delivered a deep double to left field fence, which scored the base runners.  Chad Dullnig reached base on an error which also scored Mattson.  The 4th inning ended with a score Clark 9, Holmes 2.  In the 5th inning, Robert Martin led off with a walk, and scored on a double by Moore.  Henderson got on base with a walk and Cervantes single scored him.  McFall singled to score Cervantes and the Cougars quickly had 4 more runs.   Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Ryan Skowronski who pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 runs. by on Apr.19, 2011, under Water Polo

The state water polo tournament (TISCA) in The Woodlands didn’t go Clark’s way last weekend, but both the boys and girls teams placed players on the All State roster. Clark’s boys had one loss and one win during the tournament –  that win, over Plano West, would be the only victory for any of the South Texas teams at the tournament (Clark, Brandeis, Alamo Heights, Marshall).  The Clark girls had one loss and one tie against Flower Mound. State Champions were Ross Sterling HS in Houston for the boys and for the girls it was Tomball HS.

Named  All State Honorable Mention for the girls was Jessica Rourke and for the boys Derek Poirer and Jeremy Kustoff.

Congratulations on a great season!
