Denny's isn't the only one serving Grand Slams

Clark Varsity Baseball began their 2010 district season with a decisive 12-0 win over Brandeis.  Vincent Salazar pitched to keep Brandeis scoreless, recording 14 strike outs and giving up only 1 hit in 7 innings of play.  Clark bats were alive throughout the game.  The game was scoreless going into the 3^rd inning of play where Brandeis started the inning by walking Ryan Skowronski.  Next up was Hunter McFall who reached base on an error.  Jason Cervantes followed with an infield bunt, advancing the runners, and beating the throw to first, loading the bases for the next batter.  Up to the plate stepped Braden Mattson. With a 2 ball, 2 strike count Mattson hit a grand slam home run over the right field fence, scoring 4 runs.  Vincent Salazar reached base when hit by a pitch and scored on Peter Rozanski’s double to deep right field.  Rozanski scored while Jim Wells was at the plate, making it 6 runs for the Cougars in the 3^rd inning.  In the 4^th inning, Cervantes scored on a Brandeis error, taking the score to 7 for the Cougars. In the 5^th inning, Matt Cohen hit a single to shallow center, then scored on an Brandeis error.  Also scoring in the 5^th inning was Skowronski who was walked by Brandeis.   In the Cougar’s final inning at bat, Cervantes reached base when hit by a pitch, followed by Mattson’s double to deep left field.  Next up was Jonathon Fargnoli who hit a double to score both Cervantes & Mattson.  Salazar’s at bat brought Fargnoli in for the final run for the Cougars.  Great way to start the season with lights out pitching by Salazar and the crack of the bats from Clark hitters.  Next Game is Thursday, February 25^th at 5pm when Clark hosts Central Catholic at Northside Fields.
