Belated congratulations to our Clark Cougars who are headed to various college sports programs! National Signing Day drew signatures from six Clark athletes:

WELLS THE BEST; OTHERS HONORED IN EXPRESS NEWS

Clark Cougar senior Austin Wells ran away with the Express News Cross Country Runner of the Year.  Wells is the most successful runner in Clark history.  Austin was one of several Clark athletes honored in the annual Fall Awards edition.  Also receiving special mention was running back Branden Valle as the Newcomer of the Year.

In volleyball, Katie Mattson and Kelly Cavanaugh were named to the 27-5A All District first team and Madison Woods, Shelby MacKenzie, and Meagn Moe were named to the 2nd team list.

Congratulations to all of our fall athletes for some exciting games and meets and especially to our seniors.

CLARK ALUM ALL CONFERENCE

Meade All-Conference

2011 Clark graduate Glynnis Meade was named All Conference for the second time after finishing 5th in the Heartland Conference Cross Country meet on Saturday, Oct 20 in Wichita, Kansas.  Her time of 23:05 was a personal record over the 6k distance, helping the Dallas Baptist University Women’s team score a perfect 15 as they took the first 5 spots.  Next up is the NCAA Division II Regional meet in Denver on November 3rd.

WELLS WANTS TO WHOOP! AND SETS RECORD

Setting a new district course meet record (15:19) was another highlight for Austin Wells, Clark’s most successful cross country runner.  The senior has verbally committed to run at the next level for Texas A&M University.  It was a tough choice for the runner who grew up in a University of Texas household.  The highly decorated runner talks about his choice in this KENS5 David Flores article.

WELL, WELL, WELLS

Three meets.  Three 1st place finishes.  Once again, Austin Wells dominated another cross country meet  - this time winning the Gold Division (elite) at the UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic.  In a crowded field, Wells ran a 15:26, which was five seconds faster than the winning time in the university division posted on Friday.

WELLS NOW 2-0

At this past weekend’s NEISD Cross Country meet, Austin Wells once again flew past the competition to a first place finish with a time of 15:40.  The next fastest time for a varsity boy was almost a minute later and it was almost a minute and a half later for another NISD athlete to cross the finish line.  Congratulations to Austin, who now has two 1st place wins in the past two meets.  Clark boys finished 6th at the meet and the girls finished 9th.

MACTOUGH AND SMART

Congratulations to Harry MacTough, a Clark Cross Country senior, on being named the Scholar Athlete of the Week on Thursday Night Lights broadcast.  Harry has a 104 grade point average, is the senior representative on the Clark Interact club, captain on the Science Bowl team and is ranked #1 in the Class of 2013.  Also an Eagle Scout, Harry represents Clark well on the course and in the classroom.  The award makes him eligible for a $5000 scholarship to be given at the end of the year.

Great job, Harry!

COUGARS SET PACE AT NISD CROSS COUNTRY MEET

One of the fastest distance runners in San Antonio and possibly the state helped pace the Clark Cougars to a good showing at the NISD cross country meet.  Austin Wells, picked by many as a top five cross country athlete, took 1st place in the first meet of the season and helped lead a strong boys team to a 2nd place finish.  For the ladies, Frances Moore led all Cougar runners and helped the Coogs to a fifth place invitational finish.

PRE-SEASON HONORS FOR WELLS

Congratulations are in order for Austin Wells, a Clark Cougar cross-country and track standout, who made the txrunning.com All State Pre-season team.  The senior, who owns AAU gold and just missed medaling at the state meet last season, will be one of the favorites from the South Texas area.

ALL AMERICAN MEADE!

2011 Clark alum Glynnis Meade earned All American honors at the NCCAA (Christian) Indoor Track Meet in Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday, February 18th.  Her 2nd place finish in the women’s 5000 meters, timed in 18:32.1, was a PR over the distance. She also finished 6th place in the 3000 meters.  Glynnis competes for Dallas Baptist University.  Congratulations!
