Disappointing, that is the best word to describe Region this year. Clark had a hard draw, probably the second hardest first round draw in the tournament, NEISD champions Reagan. The Rattlers are unusually deep this year, with players able to specialize in doubles or singles instead of playing both. The Coogs fought valiantly, but went down 10-3.
After placing 1st in District for the 23rd year in a row, Clark tennis team places 1st in the Area!
After beating Health Careers, 10-3, they grab another 1st!
New head tennis coach Marco Valdez extended Clark’s District Championship winning streak to 23 straight Saturday, Octber 12, 2013 at the Northside Tennis Center.
Our tennis team, winning District for the last 22 years, welcomes the new
Head Coach, Marco Valdez! He was the Head Tennis Coach at Roosevelt
High School, the Tennis Pro at Jewish Community Center and
Whispering Oak. In addition to coaching tennis, he will also teach Geometry.
We welcome him to Clark, Texas!
Things get serious after Spring Break for our athletes in Track and Field, Tennis and Golf and today’s San Antonio Express News made a list of area athletes to keep an eye on in those sports. Two Clark seniors made the list:
* Austin Wells – long distance runner headed to Texas A&M in the fall. Wells is expected to outpace all area 5A runners in the 3200. The E-N list.
*David Starck – singles tennis, is the defending 27-5A champion and also placed 3rd at the Regional tourney in 2012. The E-N list.
Best of luck to these and all their teammates from Clark!
The bats were hot for the Clark softball team on Friday as they defeated Jay 14-3. The game was called in the 5th inning based on the 10 run rule. Victoria Centeno was on the mound for the Clark win. The Coogs are now 3-2 in district play with a busy Spring Break week ahead. It’s a great time to take in some softball out at the Northside complex with a game against Marshall at noon on Monday, Holmes Tuesday at 2:00 and Warren on Thursday at 2:00. Good luck Cougars!
Meanwhile baseball had a non-district win over MacArthur on Friday 2-1 at Blossom. You can catch some good baseball next week as the boys spend their Spring Break at the Northside fields. Brandeis is up first – Monday at noon, then Jay at 2:45 on Tuesday and on Thursday they’ll play Marshall at noon. Go Coogs!
The Clark baseball team got a win on Tuesday night, but it couldn’t have been closer. The Cougars Beat Taft 1-0 after six scoreless innings. Clark got its one run in the top of the 7th and held on for the victory. Nick Van Ryan was on the mound for the Cougars and gave up only two hits. It was a much needed win for Clark, now 1-2 in district play. Next up is a non district game against MacArthur at Blossom 6pm Friday.
Unfortunately the Clark softball team lost by the narrowest of margins on Tuesday. Brandeis won this game 6-5, but the Cougars never gave up. Down 2-6 in the 6th inning the Cougars added 3 runs to finish the game. Clark is 2-2 in district with Jay up next on Friday at 7pm at Northside.
Belated congratulations to our Clark Cougars who are headed to various college sports programs! National Signing Day drew signatures from six Clark athletes:
*Presley Miller – Football – Colorado School of Mines

*Frances Moore – Soccer -University of the Incarnate Word
*Alyssa Jacobs – Soccer – Texas Tech University
*Kendall Kotara – Soccer – Trinity University
*Austin Wells – Track – Texas A&M University (Whoop!)

Clark softball is off to a good start in district bolstered by last week’s 14-11 win over Taft. Pitcher Raynelle Nash was on the mound in the victory and the bats were hot with Cougar runs in five out of seven innings and 18 hits in the game.
Following a tough outing in the Sequin Tournament this weekend Clark gets back to district with a game against Brandeis on Tuesday at 5:00 at Northside.
Let’s go Coogs!
Clark baseball got mixed results in the Northeast School District Tournament over the weekend. Clark started with a 6-1 victory over the always tough South San Bobcats with pitcher Gabe Maldonado getting the win for the Cougars. Junior Henry Dill had a homerun in the game.
District foe Brandeis outscored Clark in the first Friday game 10-7, but the Clark bats were on fire in the afternoon game against Roosevelt with the Cougars posting a 15-3 win with pitcher Thomas Pendleton on the mound. Unfortunately the tourney ended with a 7-1 loss to Austin Bowie.
Clark returns to district play with a game against Taft on Tuesday the 5th at 4:45 at Northside.
