Clark hoists runner up trophy

Clark soccer celebrates season while thanking fans

The Clark boys soccer season ended in the regional championship against an overly whiny Westlake Chaparral team, 2-1 (even several of their fans said so…seriously…).  The Cougars finish the season with a Clark best 21-2-2 record.  Their appearance in the regional championship game is the farthest a Clark boys soccer team has ever advanced in the playoffs.

Both goals for Westlake came at point blank range, giving keeper Brandon Van Wagner little chance at stopping them.  Clark’s goal came off a corner kick rebound by sophomore Carlos Sepulveda.

The Cougars were ranked #19 in the nation and #4 in Texas by ESPN.  Congratulations on a great season.  You made us proud, boys!

Congratulations to the Clark Cougars on such an amazing season. Also thanks for http://www.clarkcougarsports.com for posting a link to my photos. Check your Express-News next Thursday for more photos in the weekly neighborhood insert. It was a great run and the Cougars showed a lot of class even in defeat. Thanks again enjoy the photos…

Your referral to Westlake as “overly whiny” is an absolute mockery of what actually happened in the game. The referee lost complete control of the game, as exemplified by hard, cheap shot on the ankle Westlake’s Thomas Haws, resulting in a direct Red card with 15 seconds left in the game. It may make the ref sleep better tonight, but he’s completely responsible for Clark’s freedom to continuously maul the backs & ankles of Westlake’s players on virtually every touch in the game. Oscar Barboza’s form tackle of Westlake’s Right Back is a DIRECT Red Card in any other soccer game in the world, but a yellow to this putz. Thank goodness Barboza’s complete loss of composure continued in the second half, when he forced the referee to remove him from the game by a 2nd, senseless, maneuver. Too bad, because he clearly was Clark’s best player & his ejection virtually assured Clark’s loss. Amazing that a ref this bad gets work in such an important game.

I was repeating what I heard from Westlake fans. Several times during the game I heard Westlake fans telling the players to stop complaining and play. I also heard two or three remark they were embarrassed by SOME of the players constant verbal comments. No doubt, there were times they were justified but it tainted an otherwise good victory by the Chaps. Congrats and good luck at state.

WL fans were yelling at their players to shut up because the referee was itching to card ’em, not because they weren’t getting hacked mercilessly. Westlake still had a State Tournament to worry about and needed all of it’s players. Of course, that wouldn’t help Thomas Haws if the Clark kid had successfully broken his leg, as I’m sure it was his intention. That behavior should result in some sort of school sanction, but I’m sure we’ve heard the last of it.
