Cougars Advance

For the first time since 2007 the Clark boys basketball team has advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs.  The Cougars beat Madison on Thursday night 49-37. Clark grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never relinquished it. Niko Maxwell led the Cougars in scoring with 16,  Jake Chapman had 12 and Kyle Rutledge added 10. Also scoring were Ansley Benjamin and Jacob Palacios with 4 each and Adam Perez with 3. Great Cougar defense kept the Mavericks under wraps giving them only one player in double figures – with 10. Check out this 3rd quarter video from KABB-TV .  Lorne Chan at the Express News sees the Cougars as a “Spurs-esque” team. Read more.

Shortly after the game, WOAI-TV reported that Madison coach John Valenzuela has resigned to become a full time pastor.

Next opponent is the winner of the Churchill-Taft game slated for 7:30 Friday night at Greehey Arena at St. Mary’s University.

Clark’s third round game will be next week. GO COOOOOGS!!!!
