Jones-Socha-Wilson-Cooke-Yates

The Clark Cougars boys 4×100 relay team took 2nd place at the regional track meet at Alamo stadium.  Junior Brandon Yates, junior Brian Socha, junior Travis Cooke and senior Ryan Jones ran a time of 42.39, missing first place by just seven one-hundredths.  With the win, they advance to the state meet.  This is the first time a Clark relay team has qualified for the state meet in the history of the school.

Overall, Clark boys track tied for 7th place with Stevens.

Brandon Yates just missed a state appearance in the 200m by placing 3rd, fractions of a second behind the 2nd place runner.  Other Clark athletes who placed well included Shantel Swift and Austin Wells.

The Clark boys track and field team placed 3rd at the District Meet this week and will send several athletes to the Regional Meet. Top results included: 2nd place for Brandon Yates in the 200 meter (22.08), 2nd place for Ben Deschner in the 400 meter (51.77), 3rd place for Austin Wells in the 1600 meter (4:28.27) and 2nd place for Wells in the 3200 meter (9:35.95), 1st place for Kyle Rutledge in the High Jump (6’2″), 2nd place for Jimmy Kueber in the Shot Put (48′ 9.5″), 2nd place for Kueber in the Discus (148′ 5″), 2nd place for the 4×100 Relay (42.38) and 2nd place for the 4×200 Relay (1:29.38) – Relay team is Brian Socha, Brandon Yates, Travis Cooke and Malcolm Eatman. For the second time in as many meets, the Clark Cougar boys 4x100m relay team (Travis Cooke, Brandon Yates, Malcolm Eatman, and Brian Socha) set a new Clark record at the NEISD Relays. Their time of 42.27 beat the previous record, which they set this weekend in the SAISD meet (42.37).  Prior to that, the record was 42.50 set in 2005 by Adam Sauer, Brandon Mills, Ross Vale and Jerrell Wilkerson.

Austin Wells also broke the 1600m record at the South San meet on March 4th.  He ran a 4:25.43 which broke the old record held by Jesse Mader set in 2000 with a time of 4:27.06.

Swift running propels Coogs

The Clark Track team competed and showed well at the SAISD Invitational at Alamo Stadium. The boys team placed 3^rd overall with points earned by:  Brian Socha (100m), Travis Cooke (200m), Ryan Pavlich (800m), Austin Wells (3200m), Kyle Rutledge (High Jump), James Kueber (Shot Put and Discus), and the relay teams (4×100, 4×200, 4×400).

The girls team placed 8^th with Shantel Swift earning points in the Triple Jump and 200m, and Rebekah Washington in the High Jump, and the Girls 4×100 relay team.

Austin Wells (1600m) and Shantel Swift (triple jump) qualified for the Texas Relays.

The Clark boys track team took 1st place at the Edgewood Relays over the weekend. Results include: Kyle Rutledge placed 1st in the High Jump, Jimmy Kueber was 3rd in Discus and J. Aueber was 3rd in shot put. Austin Wells was 1st in the 3200 and 2nd in the 1600 while Aiden Pierce was 5th in the 1600. The Cougar Relay teams placed 3rd in the 4 x 100, the 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400. Malcolm Eatman was 4th in the 100 meter dash and Ben Deschner placed 5th in the Long Jump.

The girls team placed 6th overall.

In the Harlandale Invitational, Clark track athletes posted winning times to bring home medals and a team victory.

The boys team finished 2nd overall at the meet behind Steele but beating MacArthur, Churchill, and a host of others.  In the 200m, Brandon Yates placed 2nd with a time of 23.22.  Austin Wells won the 3200m with a time of 9:46.24 and came in 2nd in the 1600 with a time of 4:36.79.  Presley Miller turned it on in the 110m hurdles, placing 3rd at 15.96.  The relay teams then made their marks in the 400 (3rd place), the 800 (1st place) and the 1600 (2nd place).

On the girls side, Clark placed 11th  and was led by Shantel Swift, winning the triple jump (36-4) and winning the 400m (1:00.93).

The Clark track team, led by junior Shantel Swift, sophomore Austin Wells and junior Brandon Yates, competed in the South San Relays on Friday. Swift placed first in the Triple Jump with 38-6 1/2 and she also placed first in the 200 with a time of 25.78. Overall the Clark girls placed 11th in the Relays.

The Clark boys came in 7th behind the long distance running of Wells. He placed second in the 1600 at 4:25.12 and second in the 3200 with 9:45.00. Also placing for the Cougars was Brandon Yates, who was third in the 200 at 22.31.

All Arellano

The Express News released the All Area and All District teams for football, volleyball and cross country for the 2010 season.  Congratulations to Marcella Arellano, who received All Area and All District honors while teammates Jenn Garrett, and Kayci Murphy were selected to the All-District 27-5A teams.  Marcella and Jenn were unanimous decisions..  Second teamers included Shelby MacKenzie and Nicole Rehm.

Clark also stood out among cross country runners, with Austin Wells and Glynnis Meade making the All Area teams.

Meade and Swift lead pack

Wet weather this week moved the NEISD Cross Country meet on Saturday, Sept 11th to Blossom Athletic Complex, which meant running through the parking lots and surrounding streets with the finish in Comalander Stadium.  It was another big meet, with 28 girls teams and 33 boys teams competing, including many from NISD and NEISD.  Top 10 finishers for the girls were Glynnis Meade, 2nd place (12:03.6) and Shantel Swift, 7th place (12:17.2), followed by Katherine Ritchie (13:45), Amanda De La Fuente (13:45), Valerie Vacek (14:28), Catherine Seifert (14:57) and Lauren Porter (15:07).  Brandeis took the 1st place girls team spot, with Clark the next NISD team, placing 6th.

Roadwork for Austin Wells

Austin Wells placed 3rd overall for the boys (16:48.9), with Aidan Pierce next (19:56), then Harry MacTough (20:16), Nicholas Moseley (20:18), Tyrell Lewis (20:19), and Daniel Carcomo (20:40).  Both courses were slightly longer than the expected 2 and 3 miles.
