Clark Cougars

Following successful seasons for both teams Clark baseball placed 10 players on the All District team and 7 Clark softball players made their All District squad.

For softball:  Henessey Soto and Dani Nash were unanimous 1st team picks. Also making 1st team were Megan Martinez, Britney Ramos and Liz Rodriguez. Named to 2nd Team All District were Megan Aragones and Jeslene Renteria.

For baseball: Pitcher Chris Werland, Infielders Jason Cervantes and Hunter McFall, Outfielder Robert Martin, Catcher Braden Mattson and Utility Matt Cohen were all named 1st Team All District.

Infielder Chad Dullnig and Outfielder Ed Moore made 2nd Team All District and Ryan Skowronski and John Henderson were Honorable Mention All District.

District 27 5A CHAMPIONS!

Clark baseball defeated Holmes 13-2 in 5 innings of play to become District Champs for the second time in school history.   Once again the story of the game was the Clark bats – and what a story they told.   Clark had a total of 12 hits for the game with several standouts.  Coming into the 3rd inning, Ed Moore led off with a double.  He was followed at the plate by John Henderson who hit a double and scored Moore.  Next up was Jason Cervantes who singled.  Hunter McFall stepped into the batters box and hit a sacrifice to deep center to score Henderson.  Braden Mattson was up next and on a 1 ball, 1 strike count, hit a bomb over the left center field fence.  The inning ended with the score, Clark 4, Holmes 2.  In the 4th inning, the bats continued to crack.  With 2 outs , and 3 runners on base, McFall stepped into the batters box and delivered a single that drove in Moore and Henderson, leaving McFall and Cervantes on base.  Mattson stepped into the box and delivered a deep double to left field fence, which scored the base runners.  Chad Dullnig reached base on an error which also scored Mattson.  The 4th inning ended with a score Clark 9, Holmes 2.  In the 5th inning, Robert Martin led off with a walk, and scored on a double by Moore.  Henderson got on base with a walk and Cervantes single scored him.  McFall singled to score Cervantes and the Cougars quickly had 4 more runs.   Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Ryan Skowronski who pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 runs. Clark baseball remained undefeated in district, beating the Jay Mustangs 14-10 in 7 long innings of play.  Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Ryan Skowronski.

Clark’s first at bat saw 6 batters step into the box, recording 2 walks (Cervantes & Dullnig) and a RBI single by Matt Cohen. In Jay’s first at bat, a home run set the stage for a tough game.  Clark defense quickly took care of the next batters to close out the inning.

In the 3rd inning, Jay scored another run, giving Jay a 2-1 lead at the end of 3.  Jay scored another 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th and Chris Werland took the mound to get the last Jay out; score Jay 5, Clark 1.

At the top of the 5th inning, Clark bats said “ENOUGH”.  Hunter McFall led off the inning and hammered  a ball to the wall with a triple. Braden Mattson followed with a single, putting Clark runners on the corners.  Chad Dullnig had a nice sacrifice fly to score McFall and advance Mattson.  Mat Cohen hit a single to score Mattson and Werland’s fielders choice scored Cohen.  The Mustangs were not to be stopped, scoring another 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, score Jay 8 Clark 4.   (continue reading…)

Clark takes 2nd at NEISD

Clark Baseball lost to Churchill Chargers 14-7 in the Championship Game Saturday of the NEISD Tournament. Clark started strong and early, ending the 3rd inning of play 7-0, and forcing Churchill to go to their 3rd pitcher at the end of 3. In the 4th inning Churchill bats woke up with 5 solid hits, and these combined with 4 costly Clark errors, resulted in 8 runs for Churchill to start the 4th inning. Although Clark continued to hit, they were never able to put together a series of offensive bats to score more runs. John Henderson, Matt Cohen & Hunter McFall pitched for Clark during the game. Overall, it was a very good tournament for the Cougars, as they scored 40 runs and gave up only 22 through 6 games. Next up for the Cougars is a District Game against Brandeis at 4:45 on Tuesday at NS # 1. This is a critical game in District play as both teams are undefeated. Come cheer on your Cougars!

Clark Cougar Varsity Baseball

The #1 Clark Cougars varsity baseball team began their preseason games last night at a cold and windy South San High School, defeating South San 6 – 2.  Returning lettermen Vincent Salazar, Jonathon Fargnoli, Jim Wells, Jeremy Casper, Jason Cervantes, Diego Hernandez, Hunter McFall, Peter Rozanski, Braden Mattson, Ryan Skowronski and Tyler Reinagel were joined by Chad Dullnig, Chris Werland, Matt Cohen, John Henderson and Cullen Holt.  Salazar, Werland, Skowronski, Reinagel, Cohen and Henderson pitched the game, giving up only 2 runs in 10 innings.  Ranked # 1 in San Antonio and #14 in the state in pre-season polls, the Clark Cougars showed well and that they have the talent to make it into the post season.   Clark plays scrimmages this weekend at Madison HS at 10 & 12. They begin District games vs. Brandeis,  on February 23 at 4:45p at Paul Taylor, NS # 2.  Come out to see the boys play!
