Clark baseball had a scoreless game against Stevens through six innings on Friday with Chad Dullnig on the mound. Finally in the 7th inning, with two outs, Cole Bercher scored John Henderson with a single to left field. Then with Stevens in their last at bat, behind by 1-0, Clark left fielder, Chase Jones threw a bomb to catcher Devin Haley preventing a Falcons run. Final score Clark 1-0! Next game, Friday April 20 at 4:45 against Holmes. The Cougars remain in second place in district with two games remaining and a playoff spot secured.
Clark Varsity Baseball scored a come from behind victory against Warren Tuesday Night. After falling behind 5-0 in the early innings, Clark battled back and won 6-5. John Henderson pitched six innings and gets the win. Chad Dullnig gets the save and also drove in the winning run in the sixth inning. Next game is Friday against Stevens.
Clark Baseball is now 7-2 in district with a win over Taft Monday night. Chad Dullnig was on the mound for the 10-2 victory. Clark was winning 1-0 in the 4th inning when Robert Martin hit a triple with the bases loaded. A steal to home put the Cougars up by 5. In the bottom of the 6th, with bases loaded, two more runs were scored with a double by Hayden Brown. Devin Haley’s hit scored two more for Clark and John Henderson added one more with a single. The Cougars face the Marshall Rams Friday night 7:30pm.
Clark baseball racked up four wins over spring break, outscoring their three district opponents 39-5 and beating Johnson 6-4 at the end of the week – just for fun. The highlight of the week was senior pitcher Chad Dullnig’s no-hitter against Stevens, which Clark won 10-0. Chase Jones ended the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th. Dullnig was also the winning pitcher in the Cougar’s 13-3 win over Jay to start the spring break run on March 9th and he had his own home run in the 16-2 victory over Warren. Cole Bercher was on the mound against the Warriors for that win. Pitcher John Henderson got the win in the game against Johnson.
Clark plays Holmes on Tuesday at 7:30 at Northside.
Clark softball upped its district record to 6-2 over spring break winning 2 out of 3 district games. The Cougars beat Holmes 7-4 with Liz Rodriguez on the mound and they won 10-0 against Stevens – Henessey Soto was the winning pitcher in that game. Their only loss came against O’Connor 3-1.
Next up is Taft on Tuesday at 7:00 at Northside.
Following successful seasons for both teams Clark baseball placed 10 players on the All District team and 7 Clark softball players made their All District squad.
For softball: Henessey Soto and Dani Nash were unanimous 1st team picks. Also making 1st team were Megan Martinez, Britney Ramos and Liz Rodriguez. Named to 2nd Team All District were Megan Aragones and Jeslene Renteria.
For baseball: Pitcher Chris Werland, Infielders Jason Cervantes and Hunter McFall, Outfielder Robert Martin, Catcher Braden Mattson and Utility Matt Cohen were all named 1st Team All District.
Infielder Chad Dullnig and Outfielder Ed Moore made 2nd Team All District and Ryan Skowronski and John Henderson were Honorable Mention All District.
Clark baseball defeated Holmes 13-2 in 5 innings of play to become District Champs for the second time in school history. Once again the story of the game was the Clark bats – and what a story they told. Clark had a total of 12 hits for the game with several standouts. Coming into the 3rd inning, Ed Moore led off with a double. He was followed at the plate by John Henderson who hit a double and scored Moore. Next up was Jason Cervantes who singled. Hunter McFall stepped into the batters box and hit a sacrifice to deep center to score Henderson. Braden Mattson was up next and on a 1 ball, 1 strike count, hit a bomb over the left center field fence. The inning ended with the score, Clark 4, Holmes 2. In the 4th inning, the bats continued to crack. With 2 outs , and 3 runners on base, McFall stepped into the batters box and delivered a single that drove in Moore and Henderson, leaving McFall and Cervantes on base. Mattson stepped into the box and delivered a deep double to left field fence, which scored the base runners. Chad Dullnig reached base on an error which also scored Mattson. The 4th inning ended with a score Clark 9, Holmes 2. In the 5th inning, Robert Martin led off with a walk, and scored on a double by Moore. Henderson got on base with a walk and Cervantes single scored him. McFall singled to score Cervantes and the Cougars quickly had 4 more runs. Clark baseball remained undefeated in district, beating the Jay Mustangs 14-10 in 7 long innings of play. Starting on the mound for the Cougars was Ryan Skowronski.
Clark’s first at bat saw 6 batters step into the box, recording 2 walks (Cervantes & Dullnig) and a RBI single by Matt Cohen. In Jay’s first at bat, a home run set the stage for a tough game. Clark defense quickly took care of the next batters to close out the inning.
In the 3rd inning, Jay scored another run, giving Jay a 2-1 lead at the end of 3. Jay scored another 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th and Chris Werland took the mound to get the last Jay out; score Jay 5, Clark 1.
At the top of the 5th inning, Clark bats said “ENOUGH”. Hunter McFall led off the inning and hammered a ball to the wall with a triple. Braden Mattson followed with a single, putting Clark runners on the corners. Chad Dullnig had a nice sacrifice fly to score McFall and advance Mattson. Mat Cohen hit a single to score Mattson and Werland’s fielders choice scored Cohen. The Mustangs were not to be stopped, scoring another 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th, score Jay 8 Clark 4.
