The Clark Cougar annual All Sports Banquet, hosted each year by the Clark Athletic Booster Club, was the scene for a good time and a “hot” evening (see: A/C). Athletes and their coaches had a chance to review their seasons with parents and other athletes.
The highlight of the evening was the scholarships awarded. This year, thanks to Booster Club members and sales of sports program ads, t-shirts and other spirit items, $16,000 was awarded to student athletes going to college. The money awarded set a new record for number of students and amount of money given back by the Booster Club (see: IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT AND JOIN!).
Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches for their efforts this year and special good luck to the Seniors who have contributed to the Pride of the Northside. It’s a Good Day to be a Clark Cougar!

Congratulations to Clark varsity football/baseball student athlete Peter Rozanski, who was named this year’s Thursday Night Light’s Scholar Athlete. The award comes with a $5000 scholarship and an appearance on FOX 29′s Fox News First morning show with Ernie Zuniga and Monica Taylor.
Rozanski was one of twenty nominees, all from schools who appeared on the station’s Thursday Night Light football games this past season, including Brandeis, Churchill and Smithson Valley. He also received a GIANT check presented by Six Flags Fiesta Texas representative Sydne Purvis.
Peter plans to attend Texas A&M University and major in civil engineering. He is the son of Tom and Kathy Rozanski.
Way to go, Peter!
Congratulations to Clark Cougar varsity football player Peter Rozanski who was this week’s KSAT12 “Big Hit of the Week” (week 10). Peter’s 1st quarter blast on a Holmes receiver could be heard loud and clear as he delivered the blow.
It was one of the three Holmes 4th down attempts that failed in the 1st quarter thanks to a stellar defensive game by the Cougars. Clark won 56-27
Following a tough outing against Alamo Heights, the Clark Cougar defense stepped up and shut down a Taft offense that scored 35 points the week before, giving Clark a 10-0 win over the Raiders.
The first quarter ended 0-0 with the Cougars driving and Deandre Holmes converting a 4th and 1 with :33 seconds to go. The drive would continue into the 2nd quarter but stalled.
With 6:27 left in the half, Josh Kern set up the Cougars first score of the evening with a 42 yd. bootleg run giving the Cougars the ball on the 6 yd. line. Webb Williams made a 26 yd. field goal giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead at the half.
The 2nd half began the same way as the first half went for Taft – with three plays and a punt. Peter Rozanski had a tackle for a loss on second down of the Taft possession to put them in a hole.
Congratulations to Clark Cougar varsity football players Ryan Jones, Peter Rozanski and Webb Williams for being selected to the 2010 Randy Rodgers Pre-Season All State Academic team. RB Jones was named to the 2nd team and WR Rozanski and K Williams were Honorable Mentions. Jones was the only San Antonio player on either 1st or 2nd team.
To be eligible for the honor, players must be seniors, nominated by their coach and counselor, have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA and scored at least 1000 on the SAT. Players also had to submit a highlight tape.
Congratulations, Cougars! That’s using your heads.
Several of this year’s Clark Cougars made the All District list for 28-5A. Clark baseball went 11-5 in district play and reached the playoffs after pundits predicted a middle of the road team at the beginning of the season. Two seniors and four juniors received honors. Congratulations to all!

Clark Varsity Baseball began their 2010 district season with a decisive 12-0 win over Brandeis. Vincent Salazar pitched to keep Brandeis scoreless, recording 14 strike outs and giving up only 1 hit in 7 innings of play. Clark bats were alive throughout the game. The game was scoreless going into the 3rd inning of play where Brandeis started the inning by walking Ryan Skowronski. Next up was Hunter McFall who reached base on an error. Jason Cervantes followed with an infield bunt, advancing the runners, and beating the throw to first, loading the bases for the next batter. Up to the plate stepped Braden Mattson. With a 2 ball, 2 strike count Mattson hit a grand slam home run over the right field fence, scoring 4 runs. (continue reading…)
The #1 Clark Cougars varsity baseball team began their preseason games last night at a cold and windy South San High School, defeating South San 6 – 2. Returning lettermen Vincent Salazar, Jonathon Fargnoli, Jim Wells, Jeremy Casper, Jason Cervantes, Diego Hernandez, Hunter McFall, Peter Rozanski, Braden Mattson, Ryan Skowronski and Tyler Reinagel were joined by Chad Dullnig, Chris Werland, Matt Cohen, John Henderson and Cullen Holt. Salazar, Werland, Skowronski, Reinagel, Cohen and Henderson pitched the game, giving up only 2 runs in 10 innings. Ranked # 1 in San Antonio and #14 in the state in pre-season polls, the Clark Cougars showed well and that they have the talent to make it into the post season. Clark plays scrimmages this weekend at Madison HS at 10 & 12. They begin District games vs. Brandeis, on February 23 at 4:45p at Paul Taylor, NS # 2. Come out to see the boys play!
