BASKETBALL ALL DISTRICT HONORS

by on Apr.09, 2012, under Basketball

Adam Perez - MVP

Clark senior point guard Adam Perez was named District 27-5A MVP for the 2011-12 basketball season. Perez led the Cougars to the Regional Finals, and was also named 1st Team All District. Senior center John Chapman was named to the All District 2nd Team.

As dominating as they were on the court the Cougars are even more so in the classroom. Perez and Chapman are joined by seniors Austin Conlin, Cal Harr, Carter Josephs and Troy Ogletree on the 1st Team All Academic Team for NISD and Jacob Huston was named to the 2nd Team All Academic.  That grand total of 7 outstanding student athletes outpaced all other NISD teams.

The Clark girls also received accolades for their work on the court and in the classroom. Junior Kristen Lye was named to the 1st Team All District squad and Junior Donna Matthews was named 2nd Team All District. The best news is clearly that both Lye and Matthews will return next year!

Clark also placed four senior girls on the NISD All Academic Teams. Sara Baum, Lyndsay Lyda and Ashley Salinas were named to the 1st Team and Hannah Garcia to the 2nd Team.

Another proud moment in Clark, Texas! Congratulations to everyone!

COUGARS GOING TO REGIONAL SEMIFINALS

by on Feb.28, 2012, under Basketball

Josephs' block in the 4th qtr.

The Clark Cougar varsity basketball team, looking to make it 2 out of 3 against the District 27-5A champions,  did just that in the regional quarterfinals.  Clark sent the Brandeis Broncos to the glue factory, 45-39. They now play Laredo Alexander at the regional semifinals Friday at UTSA at 8pm and with a win will play again on Saturday at noon.

Clark started off with a 9-0 lead after the 1st quarter.  Travis Matthews had 4 pts. and the Clark defense and an enthusiastic Clark student section kept “my little ponies” scoreless with an 0 for 8 and three turnover opening period.  The Broncos fought back in the 2nd quarter.  With Adam Perez on the bench with early foul troubles, the Cougars committed 7 turnovers in the 2nd quarter and the teams went to the locker rooms tied 14-14.

The 2nd half was a back and forth affair, with the nags taking a 26-21 lead after three quarters.  The Cougars rallied in the fourth behind blocks by Carter Josephs, a key block by Troy Ogletree, solid free throw shooting by Perez and inside shooting by Travis Matthews. Justin Brickman also had a key steal and bucket that kept the Cougars ahead late in the game along with a key assist to Matthews.

Editor’s Note:  Special recognition goes out to the LOUD, ROWDY and well behaved Clark student section.  Nice showing but don’t slack up now. You were great!   And this website has taken its last shot at the Brandeis Broncos.  No more “brandees”, “my little ponies”, “bronc-no’s”, “nags”, “rented mules”, “geldings”, etc.   Your success earns you the right to be called by your proper name as our NISD little sisters.  (OK,  last one, I promise…)

RAMS MORE LIKE LAMBS AS COUGARS ROAR

Tri-Rice Van Buren rams Marshall

The Clark Cougars varsity football team had a great night against the Marshall Rams, winning 33-14 in District 27-5A action.  The game didn’t start that way, however, as Clark was surprised with either a bad kickoff or an onside kick.  Instead of starting their first offensive drive, the Cougar defense took the field and what would be an omen for the Rams the rest of the evening, gave the ball back to the Clark offense.

1st quarter

A rolling punt gave the Cougars a start on their own 1 yard line.  Josh Kern ran for 5 yds. and then on 2nd down, Kern found Brandon Yates for a 26 yd. reception.  Two plays later, Kern ran 55 yds. around the right side of the line, setting Clark up at the Marshall 10.  And three plays later Kern powered his way in for the first score of the night giving Clark a 6-0 lead.  At the 5:05 mark, Mekeba Henderson delivered a bone-jarring sack, resulting in a 3-and-out situation for the Rams.  A Kweku Larbie run, a Manny Menezes reception and another Larbie rush quickly put the Cougars at the 26 yd. line.  On 4th and 8 from the 24, Kern this time found Larbie as a receiver, and the Cougars led 13-0 with a minute left in the 1st quarter.

KICKOFF DAYS AWAY

by on Aug.19, 2011, under Football

Larbie on the loose

The 2011 version of Clark Cougar football took on Reagan in a morning scrimmage at Farris Stadium.  In the 20 play series action, Reagan and Clark each scored twice, tying at 14-14.  Sr. WR Troy Ogletree’s acrobat catch put the first points on the board for the Cougars.

In “live” action, where a 12-minute qtr. clock is used to simulate a game, Reagan reached the endzone once while Clark scored on a 36 yd. FG from Ty Williams.  The “live” action scrimmage ended up Reagan 7 – Clark 3.

While both teams still have work to do, both looked sharp for the morning.  Clark’s offensive line powered their way throughout the game as the defense also held their ground against a potentially explosive Reagan offense.  A solid crowd of fans filled the stands in the morning heat.

WAY TO PLAY, COOGS!

MUDBOWL ’09: CLARK JV SOILS BRANDEIS

Holmes shows Bronco who's the chief

Holmes shows Bronco who's the chief

Here’s all you need to know about the Clark Cougar JV victory over the Brandeis Broncos: sloppy conditions, sharp air and ground attack led by Sean Campbell and Austin Wise in the first half and Troy Ogletree and Deandre Holmes in the second half and a defense that dominated.

Following a torrential downpour, the Cougars came out of the locker room fired up and ready to win and that’s exactly what they did, 14-0.  The defense recorded two interceptions and several stops while Campbell connected with Wise for one TD and several completions.

The sophomore team also busted the Broncos.  Way to go COOGS!

MISTAKES AND MO COST COUGARS WIN

by on Sep.03, 2009, under Football

Kevin Neal pounds the AH defense into submission

Neal rips AH defense for another gain

While there were several bright spots, the Clark Cougar JV football team lost the first game of the season on Mike Robbins Field 19-21 to Alamo Heights.  The defense started the scoring as Kevin Neal intercepted an Alamo Heights pass and ran it in for a TD.  Neal also scored after a nice drive by the offense.  The final score came from a Troy Ogletree spiral to Brandon Yates.  Mistakes by both offense, defense, and special teams and Alamo Heights momentum and execution were the perfect storm for the first loss of the season.  The sophomore team, however, were persistent and won their game against the Mules.  Congratulations, guys!
