The Clark Cougar annual All Sports Banquet, hosted each year by the Clark Athletic Booster Club, was the scene for a good time and a “hot” evening (see: A/C). Athletes and their coaches had a chance to review their seasons with parents and other athletes.
The highlight of the evening was the scholarships awarded. This year, thanks to Booster Club members and sales of sports program ads, t-shirts and other spirit items, $16,000 was awarded to student athletes going to college. The money awarded set a new record for number of students and amount of money given back by the Booster Club (see: IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT AND JOIN!).
Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches for their efforts this year and special good luck to the Seniors who have contributed to the Pride of the Northside. It’s a Good Day to be a Clark Cougar!

Following a tough outing against Alamo Heights, the Clark Cougar defense stepped up and shut down a Taft offense that scored 35 points the week before, giving Clark a 10-0 win over the Raiders.
The first quarter ended 0-0 with the Cougars driving and Deandre Holmes converting a 4th and 1 with :33 seconds to go. The drive would continue into the 2nd quarter but stalled.
With 6:27 left in the half, Josh Kern set up the Cougars first score of the evening with a 42 yd. bootleg run giving the Cougars the ball on the 6 yd. line. Webb Williams made a 26 yd. field goal giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead at the half.
The 2nd half began the same way as the first half went for Taft – with three plays and a punt. Peter Rozanski had a tackle for a loss on second down of the Taft possession to put them in a hole.
The Express News has ranked the Clark Cougars football team #10 in the city in its preseason rankings, to be released in a special Sunday edition. Senior Daniel Durke receives accolades along with RB Ryan Jones , K Webb Williams and OL Tim Grona.
Lone Star Gridiron, a website, also offers a preview of the season along with some key numbers for fanatics of football.
Congratulations to Clark Cougar varsity football players Ryan Jones, Peter Rozanski and Webb Williams for being selected to the 2010 Randy Rodgers Pre-Season All State Academic team. To be eligible for the honor, players must be seniors, nominated by their coach and counselor, have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA and scored at least 1000 on the SAT. Players also had to submit a highlight tape.
Congratulations, Cougars! That’s using your heads.
With a couple of hundred people looking on and with field goals of 53, 53, 49, 47 and 42 yds., Clark Cougar kicker Webb Williams was named co-champion of the 2010 Texas A&M Kicking Camp in the Field Goal competition. Over 100 kickers from around the state and nation attended the camp, including several college prospects who competed in punting, kickoff, and long snapping contests. Williams made the finals by making FGs of 42 and 47 yds. in the preliminary round, going to the finals on Kyle Field with approximately 17 others.
It was a good weekend for the senior kicker who plans to attend Texas A&M and who was also named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football pre-season All State team in the annual release of the football guru’s magazine.
The Texas Sports Writers Association (not to be confused with the Texas AP Sports Writers) has handed out its post season All State team honors and several Clark Cougars are on the list. Robert Chapman (UTSA) was named to the 2nd Team as center, Greg Castro (West Texas A&M) was named 2nd Team Defensive lineman, Anker Wiggins made 3rd Team Offensive guard and Honorable Mentions went to QB Hayden Greenbauer (SMU) and K Webb Williams.
Several Clark Cougars from this year’s fall athletic seasons were peppered throughout the Express-News’ annual recognitions of local players. 28-5A All District Teams were also named in volleyball (Clark football All District awards were released earlier and can be found here).
